WiiMotion Plus is a dongle that attaches to the base of the Wii Remote. The standard Wii Remote was pretty good at tracking its own angle, distance and motion, but wasn't entirely accurate. The WiiMotion Plus dongle will track the Wii Remote's position more accurately in 3-dimensional space.

The lack of accuracy in the standard Wii remote allowed people to cheat at games like bowling and tennis. Pretty much all of the moves required in these games could be simulated whilst sitting in an armchair just flicking your wrist. The new Wii Motion Plus dongle is far more accurate and will track even the slightest movement of a persons hand, this we are promised will provide a true 1:1 response on the screen.

Wii MotionPlus will be bundled with Wii Sports Resort in July of 2009.

Update: EA announce that Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2010 and EA Sports Tennis will take advantage of the new Wii MotionPlus controller technology. There's now also Virtua Tennis 2009 to be added to the list.

Here Nintendo show a deeper preview of Wii Sports Resort. Games include golf, basketball, table tennis, skydiving, archery and more. Players start the game by travelling to the Wii Sports Resort island. When their aircraft reaches the island they must skydive down to the resort. Skydiving is therefore the warm-up game that introduces people to Wii MotionPlus. During the skydive your Wii remote with Wii MotionPlus becomes your skydiving Mii.

One game of interest was archery, this game demonstrates how Wii MotionPlus is not about learning new controls, but more about mimicking real life actions. The Wii remote is used as the bow and the nunchuck the string. To fire an arrow you simply hold up the remote to aim and draw back the nunchuck to pull back on the arrow.

Time Square turned into Wii Sports Resort Island

On July 23rd people in New York were treated to a real life glimpse of the Wii Sports Resort island, courtesy of Nintendo. The usual expanse of tarmac and bright lights made way for a sandy beach, a swimming pool and tropical greenery.

This was all part of Nintendo's launch promotion for Wii Sports Resort, where they promoted the new game and the island. The Wii Sports Resort island will be featured in a number of forthcoming games and visitors to time square could have been some of the first people to play on the Wii Resort island before the US launch which was on July 26th
